My youth was spent in South Jersey with a single mother who worked full-time. A childhood of church twice on Sundays, Wednesdays, and lots of other days in between. Those experiences mingle with others, like living in China for a year, teaching high school English for 17 years, and becoming a mother.
I don't want many things.
I do want to be things, like a good mom, a consistent support in the life of my students at Alternative school, a kind stranger.
I do want to do things, like find an agent who understands my work and wants to champion the stories I have, travel a lot more, and make the perfect arroz con pollo. One that makes people dream about it long after they eat it.
I am hoping for so many things.
There are prayers that I hold in my heart, prayers that I whisper in the car on my way to school, and prayers that I share so that others can pray for those things, too.
